Classic Cooked Eggnog

Ingredients
- 6 eggs
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt (optional)
- 1 qt. milk, heated until warm
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1In a large saucepan, beat together eggs, sugar and salt, if using.

2Stir in 2 cups of the milk.

3Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and just coats a metal spoon. Remove from heat.

4Stir in remaining 2 cups of milk and the vanilla.

5Cover and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, several hours or overnight.

6Just before serving, pour into a bowl or pitcher.

7Serve immediately.
