Classic Cooked Eggnog

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt (optional)
  • 1 qt. milk, heated until warm
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    In a large saucepan, beat together eggs, sugar and salt, if using.

    Stir in 2 cups of the milk.

    Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and just coats a metal spoon. Remove from heat.

    Stir in remaining 2 cups of milk and the vanilla.

    Cover and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled, several hours or overnight.

    Just before serving, pour into a bowl or pitcher.

    Serve immediately.
