Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. sifted plain flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. packed vegetable shortening
- 1 c. packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. old-fashioned oats
- 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Combine flour, salt and baking soda on waxed paper.

3Set aside.

4Mix shortening, sugars and vanilla with an electric mixer until creamy.

5Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy.

6Add flour mixture and oats.

7Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by well-rounded teaspoonful onto a greased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.

8Remove baking sheet to a wire rack for 2 minutes before removing cookies.

9Remove cookies onto a wire rack to cool completely.

10Makes approximately 7 1/2 dozen cookies.
