- 2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 2/3 c. sugar
- 2/3 c. cocoa
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 c. Crisco
- 1 c. milk
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl.

2Add Crisco and first amount of milk called for.

3Beat with mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes.

4Add eggs, rest of milk and vanilla.

5Beat 2 minutes. Spread batter in 2 well greased and floured 9 x 1 1/2-inch round layer cake pans.

6Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes until center springs back when touched lightly.

7Cook 10 to 20 minutes, then remove from pans.
