Ingredients

  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. yeast (dry)
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 1 egg (room temperature)

Directions

    Thoroughly mix 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Combine milk, water and margarine.

    Heat until just warm.

    Slowly add to dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes.

    Add egg and 1 cup flour.

    Beat 2 minutes.

    Scrape bowl.

    Add enough flour to make stiff batter.

    Spoon into 2 well-greased coffee cans (1 pound size).

    Cover with plastic lids.

    Let rise until almost to top of can.

    Remove lids and bake in 375° oven for 35 minutes.

    Remove from cans and cool on rack on side.
