- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 eggs
- 5 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
Directions

1In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar.

2Beat in molasses and eggs.

3Combine the dry ingredients; gradually add to the creamed mixture.

4Divide the dough into thirds and wrap in plastic wrap.

5Chill for at least 30 minutes.

6Bake at 350 until edges are browned and the pieces are completely baked through.

7For edible gingerbead add 2 teaspoons baking powder and 1 teaspoon baking soda to the dry ingedients.

8Bake until edges are lighty browned.**
