- 1 c. corn meal
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. flour
- 2 eggs
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp. sugar (optional)
- 3 Tbsp. bacon drippings or shortening
Directions

1Mix corn meal, flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.

2Beat eggs; add milk and stir into corn meal mixture.

3Heat fat in a 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan in a preheated 425° oven until hot.

4Tilt pan to coat with fat, then pour off and stir excess fat into batter.

5Pour batter into pan and bake for 25 minutes or until bread pulls away from sides of pan.

6Cut into squares and serve hot with butter.

7Makes 9 servings.
