  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. corn meal
  • 1 Tbsp. bacon grease
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • onion powder
  • onion flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Directions

    Bring water to boil. Add bacon grease, salt and onion powder (boil to soften the onion flakes if you add them).

    Remove from heat.

    Stir in corn meal and baking soda.

    Wet your hands and shape in oval corn pones.

    Fry about 5 to 6 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

    Drain on paper towels.
