- 1 c. flour, sifted
- 1 c. cornmeal
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 c. shortening or oil
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 c. milk
Directions

1Mix dry ingredients together.

2Add oil or melted shortening and milk.

3Stir just until all dry ingredients are wet.

4Pour in a 9 x 9-inch square pan which has been greased, sprinkled with cornmeal and heated.

5Cook 20 minutes at 425° or until lightly browned.

6Turn out on platter and cut in squares.

7(Top is crusty with cornmeal.)
