  • 1 c. cornmeal
  • 1/3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening, melted
  • 1 egg

Directions

    Mix well the cornmeal, flour, baking soda, baking powder and sugar.

    Add buttermilk and blend well.

    Add shortening and blend. Add egg and blend.

    Bake at 400° in lightly greased 8-inch cast-iron skillet until brown.
