- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 3/4 c. yellow cornmeal
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. vegetable shortening
- 3/4 c. to 1 c. scalded milk
Directions

1Preheat oven to 400°.

2Grease baking sheet; set aside.

3In medium bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt.

4With pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in vegetable shortening until coarse crumbs.

5Stir in enough scalded milk to make a soft dough.

6On floured surface, knead dough for 1 to 2 minutes until just smooth.

7Roll out into 1/4-inch thick rectangle.

8Cut into 12 equal squares.

9Place on prepared baking sheet.

10Bake 10 to 15 minutes until lightly browned.

11Serve warm. Makes 12 biscuits.
