Ingredients

  • 1 large onion - diced
  • 2 large carrots - diced
  • 1 stick celery - diced
  • 500 grams beef mince
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried mixed herbs
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 500 ml beef stock
  • 200 grams mushrooms - sliced
  • 800 grams potatoes - diced
  • 1 butter and milk to mash potatoes

Directions

    Brown onions, carrots and celery in a large pan.

    Add mince and continue cooking until brown.

    Add tomato puree, worcestershire sauce, mixed herbs and flour, stir together and add beef stock and mushrooms.

    Continue cooking with a lid on for 30 mins on a low heat.

    In a separate pan bring potatoes to the boil in salted water and cook until tender.

    Transfer meat mixture to a large pie dish.

    Mash potatoes with plenty of butter and a little milk.

    Spread mash on top of meat evenly and fluff with a fork.

    Place pie under a pre-heated grill until golden brown.
