- 1 c. cracked wheat
- 1 c. cold water
- 1 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 1/2 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 6 to 7 c. flour
Directions

1Soak cracked wheat in cold water overnight.

2Mix together the milk, shortening, salt and molasses.

3Add soaked cracked wheat. Dissolve yeast in the warm water; add to other ingredients.

4Add half the flour and beat 2 minutes.

5Add remaining flour to make stiff dough.

6Knead 10 minutes.

7Grease dough; cover and let rise until double in size.

8Divide into 2 loaves.
-
9Let rise again. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes, then at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
