Ingredients

  • 1 flank steak (1 to 1 1/2 lb.)
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. sliced onion
  • 1/4 c. chopped green pepper
  • 1/2 c. Heinz tomato ketchup or chili sauce
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper

Directions

    In large skillet brown steak on both sides in shortening. Remove; saute onions and green pepper until tender in same skillet. Stir in ketchup and remaining ingredients; add meat.

    Cover and simmer 50 minutes or until tender, basting occasionally.

    Remove steak to cutting board; slice very thinly on diagonal, across the grain.

    Skim excess fat from sauce if necessary.

    Makes 4 servings (about 1 2/3 cups sauce).
