- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 orange
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
- 2 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar (additional)
Directions

1Cream 1 cup of sugar and shortening.

2Add beaten eggs; beat until smooth.

3Squeeze juice from orange; save.

4Grind rind and raisins in food chopper; add both alternately to the rest of the ingredients.

5Pour mixture into a lightly greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

6Bake in a 350° oven for 45 minutes.

7As cake comes from the oven, pour mixture of 1 cup of sugar and orange juice over it.

8Cake is best when allowed to sit overnight.
