- 1 lb. dates, cut up
- 1 lb. raisins, cut up
- 6 c. boiling water
- 8 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
- 2 lb. chopped walnuts
- 6 c. sugar
- 9 Tbsp. butter
- 8 eggs
- 4 tsp. vanilla
- 12 c. flour
Directions

1Pour water over dates and raisins.

2Melt butter.

3Stir in eggs, sugar and vanilla.

4Add flour and soda alternately with dates, raisins and nuts.

5Fill greased 1-pound coffee cans 1/2 to 2/3 full.

6Bake at 350° approximately 1 1/2 hours.

7Makes 8 to 9 (1-pound) cans.
