- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 12 cups pitted dates, cut fine with scissors
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 egg
- 34 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 12 teaspoon salt (scant)
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 34 cup chopped nuts
Directions

1Pour boiling water over dates.

2Add soda and let mixture cool.

3In separate bowl, beat egg; add sugar and mix well.

4Stir in date mixture and remaining ingredients; mix well.

5Bake in loaf pan, greased or lined with wax paper, for 1 hour or more at 350 degrees.

6Ice with plain frosting if desired.
