  • 1 lb. chopped dates
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. walnuts

Directions

    Put dates in saucepan.

    Cover with water; bring to boil, stirring occasionally.

    Add butter, sugar and baking soda.

    Stir well and cool slightly.

    Add 3 cups flour, 1 egg, vanilla and nuts. Stir only until flour is blended.

    Pour into 2 greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans.

    Bake 1 hour at 350°.
