- 1 lb. chopped dates
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 3 c. flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. walnuts
Directions

1Put dates in saucepan.

2Cover with water; bring to boil, stirring occasionally.

3Add butter, sugar and baking soda.

4Stir well and cool slightly.

5Add 3 cups flour, 1 egg, vanilla and nuts. Stir only until flour is blended.

6Pour into 2 greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans.

7Bake 1 hour at 350°.
