Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped dates
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or shortening
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Pour boiling water over chopped dates.

    Add butter or shortening, sugar and salt; mix well and let cool.

    Add eggs and vanilla and mix; sift dry ingredients together and add to mixture. Add nuts and mix well.

    Makes one large loaf or 2 small loaves; bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes.
