  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. pitted dates, cut up
  • 3/4 c. raisins
  • 2 Tbsp. soft butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/3 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Pour soda and boiling water over dates and raisins. Set aside. Cream the butter and sugar. Add vanilla, then egg.

    Beat well. Add flour and mix.

    Pour in fruit mixture (including water) and nuts.

    Bake in a buttered 9 x 5-inch loaf pan at 350° for 45 to 55 minutes.
