- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 c. pitted dates, cut up
- 3/4 c. raisins
- 2 Tbsp. soft butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1 1/3 c. flour
- 3/4 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Pour soda and boiling water over dates and raisins. Set aside. Cream the butter and sugar. Add vanilla, then egg.

2Beat well. Add flour and mix.

3Pour in fruit mixture (including water) and nuts.

4Mix.

5Bake in a buttered 9 x 5-inch loaf pan at 350° for 45 to 55 minutes.
