- 1 pkg. pitted dates (1/2 lb.)
- 1 1/2 c. boiling water
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 to 1 c. chopped walnuts
Directions

1Cut dates in fourths.

2Add butter.

3Pour boiling water over dates and butter; let cool.

4Stir in dry ingredients, egg, vanilla and nuts; mix lightly.

5Bake in a large, greased loaf pan at 350° for 1 hour, or until done.

6Serve with cream cheese.
