Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. pitted dates (1/2 lb.)
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 to 1 c. chopped walnuts

    Cut dates in fourths.

    Add butter.

    Pour boiling water over dates and butter; let cool.

    Stir in dry ingredients, egg, vanilla and nuts; mix lightly.

    Bake in a large, greased loaf pan at 350° for 1 hour, or until done.

    Serve with cream cheese.
