Date Nut Bread

  • 1 c. chopped dates or date nuggets
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Preheat oven to 325°.

    Grease loaf pan. Combine first 3 ingredients. Cover and cool. Combine dry ingredients.

    Set aside. Cream the sugar and egg together.

    Add to date mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Stir in nuts.

    Pour into greased pan. Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 325°.

    Let stand 20 minutes before baking! Cool on rack.
