- 1 c. dates, cut in small pieces
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1 Tbsp. baking soda
- 1 egg, separated
- 1 Tbsp. melted butter
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 c. flour
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Sprinkle baking soda over dates. Add water.

2Let cool and mash.

3Beat egg yolk and pour over sugar, salt and melted butter. Pour this over date mixture. Add flour and beat with spoon. Add vanilla and nuts.

4Fold in beaten egg white.

5Pour mixture into greased and floured bread pan and bake for 1 hour at 325°.

6Check with toothpick.
