- 1 1/2 c. chopped dates
- 1 1/2 c. boiling water
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 1/2 c. white sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 beaten egg
- 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 1/3 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. nuts
Directions

1Mix dates, boiling water, butter, white sugar and salt and set aside to cool.

2Add egg.

3Sift together flour, soda and cream of tartar.

4Add to cooled mixture.

5Add vanilla and nuts; mix well. Put in greased loaf pan dusted with flour.

6Bake 1 1/4 hours at 350°.
