  • 1 1/2 c. chopped dates
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 1/3 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. nuts

Directions

    Mix dates, boiling water, butter, white sugar and salt and set aside to cool.

    Add egg.

    Sift together flour, soda and cream of tartar.

    Add to cooled mixture.

    Add vanilla and nuts; mix well. Put in greased loaf pan dusted with flour.

    Bake 1 1/4 hours at 350°.
