Ingredients
- 2 c. plain flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. packed dark brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 c. milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 Tbsp. margarine, melted and cooled
- 1 c. coarsely chopped, pitted dried dates
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened and whipped
Directions

1Preheat the oven to 350°.

2Grease 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan and set aside.

3In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.

4Stir in the brown sugar.

5Place the egg in a mixing bowl and beat until light and fluffy.

6Stir in the milk, vanilla and melted margarine, mixing until blended.

7Stir this mixture into the sifted dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly.

8Fold in the chopped dates and nuts.

9Spoon the batter into the prepared pan and bake about 40 minutes or until the bread begins to pull away from the sides of the pan and the center is done when tested.

10Let cool in the pan.

11To serve, slice the bread and cut each slice lengthwise into halves.

12Place the whipped cream cheese on top.
