Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp. sweet butter, cut into 6 chunks
- 1 c. pitted dates, coarsely chopped
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. shelled walnuts, chopped
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350° and grease a 9 x 5 x 3-inch pan.

2Place butter in a large mixing bowl.

3Place dates on top and pour both sugars over.

4Pour boiling water over ingredients in the boil. Let sit for 7 minutes; stir well.

5When mixture is cool, add the egg and mix well.

6Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together.

7Add to date mixture, beating for 30 seconds.

8Stir in walnuts and vanilla.

9Pour mixture into prepared pan.

10Bake for 45 to 50 minutes.
