  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Pour boiling water over dates; let stand 5 minutes, then add soda.

    Cream together the butter and sugar.

    Add beaten egg.

    Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

    Alternately add flour and date mixture in creamed ingredients.

    Then add vanilla and nuts. Bake in greased and floured large loaf pan until done, about 1 hour at 350° or 2 small loaves for 40 minutes.
