- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. melted butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. cut up dates
- 3 c. flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. boiling water
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Pour 1 cup boiling water over dates.

2Stir in soda to remaining 1/2 cup water.

3Mix soda water, dates and flour and nuts together.

4Cream sugar, eggs, butter, salt and vanilla and add to previous ingredients.

5Put in 2 greased loaf pans and bake at 325° for about 1 hour (check with toothpick in middle).

6Take out of pans immediately.

7Cool.

8Serve with cream cheese mixed with 1 tablespoon of raspberry jam as spread.
