Date-Nut Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. melted butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. cut up dates
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Pour 1 cup boiling water over dates.

    Stir in soda to remaining 1/2 cup water.

    Mix soda water, dates and flour and nuts together.

    Cream sugar, eggs, butter, salt and vanilla and add to previous ingredients.

    Put in 2 greased loaf pans and bake at 325° for about 1 hour (check with toothpick in middle).

    Take out of pans immediately.

    Cool.

    Serve with cream cheese mixed with 1 tablespoon of raspberry jam as spread.
