  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 pkg. dates
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. coconut

Directions

    Combine sugar, milk and butter in heavy saucepan.

    Cook until syrup forms a soft ball in cold water.

    Add dates.

    Stirring frequently, cook until candy becomes very thick.

    The bubbles will pop with a hissing sound and the mixture will follow the spoon around the pan. Take from heat and add nuts and coconut.

    Stir until mixture has the consistency of soft cookie dough.

    Turn candy on a wet cloth. Form a long roll and wrap in the wet cloth until cool.

    Cut into 1/2-inch pieces.
