  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 c. milk, scalded
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 6 c. flour

Directions

    Soften yeast in water. Add the scalded milk to the sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Add 1 cup flour. Beat. Add yeast and egg. Mix well. Add enough flour to make soft dough. Knead 10 minutes. Put in greased bowl and let rise until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch down and let set. Shape and place in greased pan. Let rise again, about 45 to 50 minutes. Bake at 325° for 20 to 25 minutes.
