Dog Ears(Fried Bread)

Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 3/4 c. hot water
  • 2 cakes dry yeast
  • 5 3/4 c. flour

Directions

    Scald milk and pour over sugar, salt and shortening.

    Add 3/4 cups hot water.

    Let cool to lukewarm.

    Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water.

    Add both mixtures together.

    Add flour and knead. Set aside, covered with towel, until double in size.

    Knead down again.

    Pinch off small pieces and flatten.

    Fry in skillet in shortening on both sides until light brown.

    Very good buttered and served with soup beans.
