  • 1 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 2 tbsp. shortening (I like corn oil)
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • Healthy pinch of soda

Directions

    Combine flour and salt; cut in shortening with a pastry blender till mix resembles coarse meal.

    Add in lowfat milk, stirring till dry ingredients are moistened.

    Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and knead lightly 4 or possibly 5 times.

    Bake at 425-450 degrees till done.

    Yield: 8 biscuits.
