- 2/3 c. butter or shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 Tbsp. water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. flour (plain)
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
- 2 egg whites
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 c. brown sugar
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Cream butter and sugars.

3Beat in yolks, water and vanilla.

4Mix flour, baking powder and salt together and stir into butter mixture.

5Pat into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.

6Sprinkle evenly with chocolate chips.

7Beat whites and cream of tartar until stiff.

8Beat in 1 cup of brown sugar gradually.

9Spoon over cookie mixture in pan, spreading evenly into corners.

10Bake 30 minutes.

11Cut into squares while warm.
