Ingredients

  • 1 qt. milk (cold)
  • 2 c. plain mashed potatoes
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 c. lard
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 Tbsp. yeast and 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 11 to 12 c. bread flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. salt

    Mix milk, mashed potatoes, sugar and lard together.

    Dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in warm water.

    Add to mixture. Next, add 3 cups flour.

    Cover and let set 1/2 to 3/4 hour.

    Then add eggs, salt and remaining flour.

    Let rise until double.

    Roll, cut and let rise again.

    Bake in hot lard.
