Ingredients

  • 1 large bunch celery, chopped (leaves and all)
  • 1 bunch parsley leaves (no stems), chopped finely
  • 4 to 5 onions, chopped
  • 28 oz. can whole tomatoes, broken apart
  • 3/4 lb. hamburg
  • 1/4 lb. ground pork
  • 1 slice fresh bread, crumbled
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • parsley, salt and pepper to taste

Directions

    Put first 4 ingredients into large pot. Add 1 can water and boil mixture.

    Mix hamburg, pork, bread, egg, salt, pepper and parsley and form into small meatballs.

    When pot is boiling, add meatballs and gently fold them in.

    Cook slowly about 4 hours; add salt and pepper if needed.

    Serves 4 to 6 people.

    Freezes well.
