Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 6 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1/2 c. sugar, mixed with 1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

    Cream the shortening and first 1/2 cup sugar thoroughly.

    Add eggs and mix well. Add other dry ingredients alternately with milk. Fill greased muffin tins half full.

    Bake in a 375° oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Take out of pan immediately. Dip tops in melted butter, then in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

    Makes 12 muffins.
