Ingredients

  • 3 large onions, sliced thin
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 3 cans beef broth
  • 2 cans chicken broth
  • 3 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 6 slices french bread toasted
  • 6 slices swiss cheese

Directions

    Saute onion in butter.

    Add water, broths and seasoning.

    Bring to boil.

    Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour uncovered.

    Place a slice of cheese on the toasted bread.

    Put under broiler till cheese melts and then place on top of bowl of soup.
