Easy Shoofly Cake

   Preheat oven to 350°F.

   In a medium-sized heat-proof bowl, combine molasses, baking soda, and boiling water and stir until well mixed. Set aside.

   In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and brown sugar. Add vegetable oil and mix with your hands until crumbs form.

   Remove 1 1/2 cups of the crumb mixture and set aside. Whisk remaining crumbs into the molasses mixture until combined. The batter will be thin.

   Pour the batter into an ungreased 13x9 baking dish. Sprinkle the 1 1/2 cups of reserved crumbs evenly over the batter.

   Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.
