  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Blend flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and cocoa.

    Add shortening, sour milk and vanilla. Beat hard for 2 minutes by hand or with an electric mixer on medium speed.

    Turn into greased and floured 9 x 9-inch baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until cake top springs back to the touch.
