  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves

    Put into saucepan, the sugar, water, raisins, Crisco, salt and spices.

    Boil 3 minutes and allow to cool.

    When cold, add flour into which has been sifted baking powder.

    Mix thoroughly. Dissolve soda in boiling water (small amount) and add to mass. Put into an 8-inch square pan, greased.

    Sprinkle granulated sugar and cinnamon on top.

    Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
