- 1 yeast cake
- 1 Tbsp. water (warm)
- 1/2 c. scalded milk
- 1 c. water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 4 c. flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Cool scalded milk to lukewarm. Add 1 cup water, salt, sugar, yeast and 2 cups flour.

3Beat well. Let rise, covered, until doubled in bulk.

4Add slightly softened shortening and remaining flour.

5Beat and knead thoroughly.

6Let rise again until double in bulk.

7Place on floured board or use corn meal.

8Flatten to 3/4-inch thickness and cut with 2 1/2-inch cutter.

9Bake 15 minutes on hot griddle (not buttered) turning once or twice.
