Ingredients
- 1 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 1 egg
- melted butter
Directions

1Scald milk. Add sugar, salt and shortening. Cool until lukewarm.

2Sprinkle yeast on warm water and stir.

3Put a little sugar in yeast water to dissolve. Combine milk mixture and 1 cup flour. Stir by hand.

4Add yeast and egg.

5Stir in remaining flour, a little at a time; beat after each addition until you have a soft dough.

6Cover and let rise in warm place, 1 to 1 1/2 hours until double.

7Turn out onto lightly floured board.

8Toss and coat with flour; knead about 15 times.

9Make balls.
-
10Coat with butter.
-
11Let rise in pan 30 to 40 minutes.

12Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 375°.
