  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine,softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 3 large eggs large
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest grated
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour, unbleached all-purpose
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups figs dried, finely chopped

Directions

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs, peel and vanilla, beat well.

    Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt; blend into creamed mixture.

    Stir in figs.

    Pour into greased 13x9x2 inch baking pan.

    Bake at 350F (180C) F for 25 minutes.

    Cool; cut into bars.
