Five Hour Beef Stew

Ingredients

  • 4 lb. stew meat
  • 8 potatoes
  • 2 small onions (use less if desired)
  • 2 tomato cans water
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • pepper to taste
  • 8 carrots
  • 4 ribs celery
  • 2 large cans tomatoes
  • 6 Tbsp. tapioca
  • 2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Spread the stew meat over the bottom of a roaster or Dutch oven.

    Cut the carrots, celery, potatoes and onions into large pieces.

    Arrange them over the meat.
  4. 4
    Pour the canned tomatoes over all, then pour the cans of water over the tomatoes.

    Sprinkle with the tapioca and seasoning.

    Cover and bake at 275° for 4 hours. (There is no reason to look during this time.)

    Then, remove the cover and bake 1 hour more (this thickens the stew).
