- 3 medium onions, sliced or pearl onions
- 2 lb. good stew meat
- 1 large can tomatoes
- 6 carrots, cut in 1-inch pieces
- 1 c. celery, cut in 1-inch pieces
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. plus tapioca
- 3/4 c. bread crumbs
Directions

1Mix all of ingredients in casserole to be covered, sprinkling bread crumbs on last.

2Cook stew in oven 5 hours at 250°.

3Can dress this recipe up with a little Burgundy wine, mushrooms, potatoes or dumplings added near end of cooking time.

4If using potatoes, add at beginning.
