Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons. baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup milk

Directions

    In large bowl, stir together all dry ingredients.

    Using a pastry blender or fork, cut butter into flour mixture to resemble course crumbs.

    Add milk in all at once. Use a fork to stir just until moistened.

    Place dough on lightly floured surface. Fold and press dough until dough starts to hold together and form a ball.

    Pat dough out with floured hands until dough is about 3/4 inch thick. Use about a 2 inch biscuit or cookie cutter to cut out biscuits. Roll any remaining dough back out to form more biscuits.

    Place biscuits, sides touching, on a greased baking sheet or pan and bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes. Makes about 10 biscuits.
