  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (plus a little extra to sprinkle on top, if desired)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half (plus extra for brushing on biscuits, if desired)
