Ingredients

  • 5 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. shortening (I use 1 stick butter and 1 stick margarine)
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 pkg. yeast

Directions

    Sift flour, salt, soda, sugar and baking powder together.

    Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Dissolve yeast in water and add to buttermilk.

    Add buttermilk to flour all at once.

    Stir dough until it follows fork around bowl.

    Then put on floured surface and knead for 30 seconds.

    Roll out 1-inch thick.

    Cut out biscuits.

    Bake at 425° for 10 minutes.

    Dough may be refrigerated for 4 to 5 days.
