Ingredients

  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 6 1/2 c. flour

Directions

    Dissolve the yeast in half of the water and add 2 cups of the flour.

    Make a sponge and let raise.

    When fully raised, add the salt dissolved in the rest of the water and knead with the rest of the flour.

    Let raise once the shape in long loaves, place in a baking tin with the seam on the bottom, then cover with a towel and let raise.

    When raised, take a very sharp knife and cut 3 small long gashes across the loaf to sever the crust, then place quickly in a hot oven (450°).

    When 1/2 baked, wash with milk and finish baking.
