- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup lemon juice or vinegar
- 2 cups olive oil
Directions

1Prepare this dressing in a screw-top jar.

2Dissolve the salt, pepper, mustard and sugar in the lemon juice or vinegar.

3Add the oil gradually, shaking vigorously as you do so.

4Keep the jar in a cool place.

5This basic dressing may be used plain or with herbs for a tossed green salad; it may be spiced with onion and garlic for marinating meat, vegetables or fish; or it may sweetened with honey or sugar as a dressing for fruit salads.

6Use it whenever one of the recipes calls for French Dressing.

7Shake well before using.
