- 2/3 to 1 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 c. water
- 3 c. fresh fruit with juice
- 1 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 c. milk
Directions

1Mix the first 4 ingredients in saucepan.

2Bring to a boil and boil 1 minute, stirring constantly.

3Pour into a 1 1/2-quart baking dish and dot with butter.

4Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

5Cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture looks like meal.

6Stir in milk.

7Drop by spoonfuls onto hot fruit or berries.

8Bake until golden brown at 400° for 25 to 30 minutes.

9Serve warm with juice and cream. Serves 6 to 8.
